Xbox Is The New “Family Entertainment Center”
Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer declares the Xbox “isn’t a gaming console” but a “family entertainment center.
Speaking to CVG, he said that he wants an “average 15-year-old girl” to be as excited about receiving an Xbox 360 as the boys.
“… You go to your average 15-year-old boy, and he will say ‘I’ll take an Xbox.’ I want that average 15-year-old girl as excited about the Kinect, and we haven’t done as good a job drawing in that broader set of demographics,” said CEO Steve Ballmer.
“If you want to know where is the consumer heat, the things that people want to get their hands on, it’s Xbox and Xbox Kinect. I think about my own family. My wife used to say, ‘No, no, that’s the machine the boys use,’ and now she says, ‘Yeah, I want to go watch movies. Let’s go play the dance game.'”
“It opens up accessibility to family entertainment because with the Kinect, you control these systems with your body, with your voice. We’ve opened up the world of content in TV, movies. You just sit there and say ‘Xbox’ or ‘play movie.'”
“Xbox isn’t a gaming console. Xbox is a family entertainment center. It’s a place to socialize. It’s a place to watch TV. We have Hulu coming. It’s the only system where you are the controller. Your voice, your gestures, your body,” he went on.

I get what you’re trying to say. My sister would never be excited about owning an Xbox 360 no matter what.

@rabbi_this is not discriminating..open up ur eyes mate..this iz a fact…whn i bought my x box the only thing my sis asked was if she could watch movie in it…it was just a dvd player 2 her.

And MS wants to do exactly that. Not only play DVD movies but also stream movies as well, etc. In short the “media hub” for the entire family.

Girls are usually soft hearted therefore its a bad thing to make fun of their personality. After the great kinect xbox is everyone’s entertainment console. They would like games like dance central more than we do. I hope everyone understands my ambigous argument.

Too bad for me..I’d hate to see this mighty beast wasting into watching family movies & online streaming..I hope xbox never turn out 2 be sth like that..
