How many ways are there to get your favorite video game signed by the developers rather than winning a contest, cornering the developers at a conference or “stalking” ‘em?

Show your gratitude to a Dead Space fan named Ashley, for whom you now know a new way to do so, and that is, quite unambiguously – having your dog destroy the disc.

Yes, folks, you saw it right, ’cause it just happened lately.

While playing her brand new copy of Dead Space 2, Ashley’s dog knocked over her Xbox 360, irreparably damaging the disc. Naturally, Ashley did what anyone would do in that situation: She shared her woes on Twitter. And that’s what made her day.

Visceral art director Ian Milham spotted her tweets, asked for her address and sent her a hand-drawn picture of Isaac Clarke scolding Ashley’s dog next to a (very) signed copy of Dead Space 2 which you can see below.

Now, we actually don’t have any words to describe this, but if you have anything to say, leave it in the comments section or perhaps try to shed some scratches on your newly bought Dead Space 2 disc and share it on Twitter. Who knows, you might also get asked for your address!

Dream come true, ain’t it? Sony and Microsoft joining forces to make the ultimate gaming console. And you won’t have to wait too long either.

Ex-Sony Computer Entertainment deputy president and ex SCEE worldwide president David Reeves believe that this could happen within the next 15 years. David Reeves is currently the COO of Capcom.

His reasoning behind this is the enormous cost of developing next-gen hardware:

“When you’re on the first-party side, you realise how really, really expensive it is to develop a platform. Whether it’s PS3, or Xbox 360 or even Wii, they cost millions – maybe not billions, but absolutely millions. You don’t know when to put that stake in the ground of technology and move on. You know, say ‘that’s enough’.

“Eventually, it may just become so expensive to develop [their consoles] that Microsoft and Sony say, ‘Okay, let’s get together.’ I’d say it’s between 10 and 15 years away. That’s how long I think it will take. I don’t think it will be the next console cycle, but probably the next cycle after that, where you might have something platform-agnostic.

“But it might be different players, of course. It might be Google getting together with, dare I say, Microsoft, or Google with somebody else.”

Note to aspiring modders when taking apart your Xbox 360, be careful otherwise the Xbox 360 DVD drive may catch fire!

A modder by the name of iwemion was tinkering with his 360′s innards while a slip-up caused his DVD drive to catch fire:

“So i had my Xbox 360 case open, and it was plug[ged] in. I was testing lights fans, etc. But then i had to get to the fan shroud so i moved the DVD drive and the DVD drive motherboard touched the case and caught fire. I put the fire out, not much damage was done except for 1 spot, there is [now] a hole through the board, needless to say that DVD drive is toast.”

So beware! Not only will this void your warranty by opening the case but it may be a great risk to you too.

Remember Bungie before they were bought out by Microsoft; they were a Mac developer.

Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Bungie, Apple’s Steve Jobs was “furious”.

Former Xbox boss, Ed Fries has revealed to Develop how he had to personally broker a deal with the fuming Apple boss.

“As soon as we announced we bought Bungie, Steve Jobs called,” Fries told Develop. “He was mad at [Microsoft CEO Steve] Ballmer and phoned him up and was angry because we’d just bought the premier Mac game developer and made them an Xbox developer.”

In order to handle the situation, the Xbox co-creator had help Bungie’s former president setup an entire company with the sole purpose of porting Windows hits to Mac.

“So, during the day, I got an email from Steve Ballmer asking me to phone Steve Jobs and calm him down about the whole thing,” he said.

“Anyway, we did this deal with Apple where we’d port some PC games to the Macintosh and help Peter Tamte create this company to do it, and I had to go to a Mac developer conference and get on stage and talk about this whole new partnership. It was a pretty strange time.”

Yup, don’t mess with Steve Jobs.

You might want to take this with a pinch of salt. Financial news site (as well as gaming sites) are ablaze with the speculation that Apply may be buying Sony or EA in the near future.

Here’s the facts: Apple is worth $283.02 billion in the stock exchange. Sony’s worth $33.75 billion. EA just over $5 billion.

Now, Apple has a cool $51 billion cash to spend. So, where will that go? Rumors are rife that the likely targets are Sony, EA, Adobe, Disney Netfilx or even Facebook. That’s a long shopping-list indeed.

“We strongly believe that one or more very strategic opportunities may come along, that we can take, that we’re in a unique position to take advantage of because of our strong cash position,” Apple CEO Steve Jobs told investors.

“So I think that we would like to continue to keep our powder dry because we do feel that there are one or more strategic opportunities in the future.”

What “strategic opportunities”?

Wall Street Kaufman Brothers have tipped EA, Netflix and even Facebook as targets.

Leading financial magazine Barron’s is reportedly suggesting that Apple faces “speculation that it could acquire Adobe Systems, Sony, or even Walt Disney”.

Crazy? Probably. But with a surplus of $51 billion cash, both Sony or EA are in the target range.

In its last fiscal year to March 31, 2010, Sony announced a net loss of 40.8 billion yen ($440 million dollars).

The Japanese hardware giant is estimated to be worth in the region of $40 billion – comfortably in Apple’s price range.

Stay tuned.

Who wouldn’t want Uncharted 3?

But not in this way. First of all, a couple of fan artwork by Albert Ng caused Amazon France to list Uncharted 3 for release.

This set the internet ablaze and many rumors came pouring in about Uncharted 3.

Sad to say, Uncharted 3: World of Deceit is fake.

Albert Ng (the fan artist) has denied to CVG that his art has any relation to Naughty Dog’s new game.

Albert Ng subsequently reiterated that the work “was a project done for an architecture class” and “has no affiliation with Naughty Dog”.

Naughty Dog’s Arne Meyer posted on the NeoGAF forums:

“The guy used the Uncharted universe as the basis for mock work for one of his classes and even listed it as such where the pieces were posted: Uncharted 3 pieces I did for architecture class.

So, totally fake and I didn’t even have to say so. Nice try websites who should actually read the sources of their scoops and do some smart investimagating [sic] before posting. It’s not rocket science.”

And that’s how the internet broke gamers heart everywhere.

[Update] Some sources question the authenticity of the torrent.

According to torrent news site TorrentFreak, the studio was one of the first to attempt to downloaded a file posing as an Xbox 360 Black Ops full game torrent on a popular P2P site.

The site runs an image showing ‘external.treyarch.com’ downloading the torrent file.

The site admits that ‘it’s impossible to confirm its authenticity’ – and Treyarch is unlikely to confirm its involvement.

[Original Story]

Thieves who stole the Call of Duty Black Ops disc have leaked the Xbox 360 version online to several torrent and usenet sites.

VentureBeat reports that Activision is having none of it. According to the site, the publisher has hired private investigators to quell the spread of pirated versions of the game.

“But instead of busting them and turning them over to the FBI, the investigators are trying a different tactic. They’re approaching the pirates and telling them to please stop selling illegal copies of the game.”

“Where the pirates refuse to cooperate, the investigators can get tougher and bring in the FBI.”

Support the developers by buying the original Call of Duty Black Ops due for release on November 9 for PC, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360.

Yup, you guessed it right – it’s Modern Warfare 2.

But you will be even more astonished as to how many illegal copies were downloaded. According to TorrentFreak, Modern Warfare 2 was downloaded a whopping 4.1 million times for the PC and 970,000 times for the Xbox 360. Still, Modern Warfare 2 brought in $550 million in sales revenue on the first five days alone. Makes you think what would happen if another 5 million customers paid for the game, doesn’t it?

Even my Xbox 360 gave the “early” symptoms of the RROD, including erratic freezing. It’s not like I treat my 360 with special care. It got drenched in water. Yes, it rained so hard that water came pouring down the stairs from the roof and into my home (now that doesn’t happen very often)! And it happened at night, so I didn’t realize it until the next morning. And what a shock I got! My 360 Premium was a goner for sure I thought. It was just soaked! However, a little blowing with a hair dryer fixed everything and the 360 works without a glitch.

I even checked the 360 as baggage in international luggage while traveling to the US. And when I returned home with it, the unit still worked like a charm. I’m also happy to announce that even after 2 years of non-stop gaming, my 360 still hasn’t RROD, considering the torture it went through. This might not be “major” news to you, but it certainly means a lot to me, after all, many 360s are dead on arrival or RROD within the first 6 months or within a year.

Still, I tremble at the thought of seeing the oh-so-familiar three red lights flashing when I turn on the 360. For starters, I had to import this 360 from the US and there’s no Microsoft service center here (although there is a Sony Customer Care Center, sigh). So, to all those who didn’t have the 360 RROD, come over to my house and we’ll play Gears. But, then again, it wouldn’t be much of a party with just the two of you. *

Odd Enough? Vote for it at Digg.

* I mean, seriously, you STILL didn’t have the RROD?

Police are trying to trace the owner of 65,400 euros ($90,363) mistakenly sent to a 16-year-old boy who bought a PS2 for $195 on eBay
The cash arrived in a box at the house in Aylsham, Norfolk, with the games console, but minus two games.

Police are holding the money under the Proceeds of Crime Act while the matter is investigated.

An eBay spokesman said the parcel’s contents were “somewhat unusual” and it would help police with their inquiries.

The boy’s parents, who are not commenting, alerted police when the parcel arrived on 20 March.

Family claim

Magistrates have given Norfolk Police until September to hold on to the money before the case comes up in court.

But, if the money remains unclaimed, the family could potentially apply for it to be returned to them under the Police Property Act.

A police spokesman said: “We have until 22 September before we have to go back to court to apply for a further order if necessary.”

A spokesman for eBay said: “We know that eBay is a great place to pick up a bargain, although in this case, we agree that the contents of the parcel were somewhat unusual and we will assist with any inquiries the police may wish to make.”

What sets this apart from the competition is how they used multimedia content – beside every review and preview is a game footage and other interactive contents. Brilliant.

The quality of these zines rivals some of those print magazines. Updated on a monthly basis, gamerzines.com currently publishes five magazines, the 360zine for Xbox360 gamers, the PCGzine for PC gamers, the P3zine for playstation fans, HGzine which is for handle held gamers and last but certainly not least is the Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) Zine.
