Players are rumored to take the role of Ghost, revealing how he became a masked member of Task Force 141. This has also been explored in a Modern Warfare comic book by David Lapham.

Rumors suggest that players will get to revisit locations from the original Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2. Also that the game will not feature a brand new engine.

Nothing has been confirmed at the moment so take this with a pinch of salt.

Or is it? Gran Turismo 4 released on February 22 2005. That’s more than 5 years from now as Gran Turismo 5 is scheduled for release today. So, how has 5 years treated the game? Not so hot, you say.

For starters, GameStop US has said that it won’t be holding a midnight launch event in a couple of its stores. Why? “The game is not big on hype”, according to a GameStop employee.

What everyone will fail to realize is that sales of Gran Turismo games have a “long-tail” pattern, no matter how many the game sells in its debut months it will continue to sell really well for a really long time, adding up to colossal numbers.

Several gaming news and blog sites are echoing the same. UK magazine PSM3 writes, “GT5 is a colossal disappointment. Epic. Global.” They’ve largely attributed Gran Turismo 5 as more of the same, albeit a better looking one.

Not everyone feels the same, while another PSM3 writer declared, “It’s brilliant… the best GT yet”.

So why the contrasting view points? It seems many had a little too much expectation for the game. After all, it’s a game – a racing game. That’s Gran Turismo 5, be it better than the other racers out there in the market. We can’t confirm until we’ve got our hands on Gran Turismo 5.

But one thing is for certain. It looks a helluva’ better than its competitors. We urge you to check out the comparisons here.

If you believe in “world’s first review from an unknown site”, Juexvideo.com reviewed Gran Turismo 5 saying “If Gran Turismo was “The Real Driving Simulator” it is no longer the case.”

Personally? I still have high hopes for Gran Turismo 5 – but as I put in the disc I must remind myself “it’s just a racing game.”

[Update] Gran Turismo 5 reviews are now live. We’ve got it rounded up all in one place for you to check out.

Call of Duty®: Black Ops Sets New Opening Day Sales Record With Approximately $360 Million in North America and United Kingdom Alone

Most Anticipated Game of the Year Becomes Biggest Entertainment Launch in History

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov. 11, 2010 /PRNewswire/

Shattering its own day-one sales record, Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) announced that Treyarch’s highly-anticipated Call of Duty®: Black Ops has become the biggest entertainment launch ever with an estimated sell-through of approximately $360 million in North America and the United Kingdom alone in the first 24 hours of its release, as compared to last year’s estimated day-one sell-through of $310 million for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare® 2 in North America and the United Kingdom, according to internal Activision estimates.

Call of Duty: Black Ops, marks the second year in a row that the Call of Duty franchise has set day one launch records across all forms of entertainment. In its first day on November 9, the blockbuster title sold through approximately 5.6 million copies in North America and the United Kingdom, as compared to 4.7 million copies for last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, according to internal Activision estimates.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is one of the most critically acclaimed games of the year worldwide and was released with unprecedented retailer support and more than 12,000 midnight openings around the globe.

“There has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records for two consecutive years and we are on track to outperform last year’s five-day global sales record of $550 million,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard, Inc. “The game’s success underscores the pop culture appeal of the brand. Call of Duty: Black Ops is the finest game that Treyarch has ever made and raises the bar for online gameplay by delivering the deepest and most intense Call of Duty experience yet. The Call of Duty franchise has over 25 million players around the world that are engaged in billions of hours of online gameplay, and we are committed to supporting them with new content and features on a more frequent and regular basis.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops is rated “M” (Mature) by the ESRB for Blood, Drug Reference, Intense Violence and Language.

EA Europe VP Patrick Soderlund has revealed to Eurogamer that BlackBox studies will be making a new Need For Speed title for release next November.

BlackBox made the last NFS: Undercover. It is possible that this new NFS game could be a sequel to NFS: Shift, which was announced back in August for release at the end of FY2011.

“We want to come back with an action adventure type of product on an annual basis, but from a developer that’s been working on it for a couple of years.

“Maybe there are two or three developers going at it every second year. Then, when the market permits and when we feel ready, we’ll come up with Shift versions as well.”

Sony has proved that remaking classic tiles in HD like the God of War collection and The Sly Collection can be a worthwhile endeavor. So has Ubisoft with their upcoming Prince of Persia HD.

So where’s Microsoft’s stance on this?

Speaking with IGN, Microsoft has said that they’ll do it if it can “provide real value to the customer”.

“We obviously have a lot of new things going on, so the thought of re-doing a bunch of things is probably difficult to just weave into the overall portfolio. If you can provide real value to the customer, there could be possibilities for that, but I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about it,” Microsoft corporate VP Phil Spencer told IGN.

“I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad idea,” he said. “I’m going to think about it from the customer’s perspective, and are we really delivering something of value to the customer at a price that they want?”
