Beta Testers Who Signed Up For Battlefield Heroes Have Their Accounts Hacked

A recent security breach at Qaboss.com, the website that manages the Battlefield Heroes beta testing has revealed sensitive information to hackers.

Gamers who were expecting a message from Qaboss initiating them into the Battlefield Beta Test were surprised to find this message in their inbox on the 14th of June 2008. Although the exact number of accounts stolen is not mentioned, but it must be a significant number.

The official statement read,

QA Boss has been made aware of a security breach which exposes QA Boss forum user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords. While passwords are encrypted, it must be assumed that the encryption can be broken.

As a safety precaution, it is advisable that anyone who uses passwords on other accounts, particularly email, which may be similar to the one used on the QA Boss system, should consider changing their non QA Boss passwords.

We also feel that it may be prudent for users to change their QA Boss passwords. Instructions can be found in the News & Announcement section of the forums at http://qaboss.com

Although the passwords themselves are encrypted, but it won’t be long after the hackers have figured out a way to crack the code.

What is worrying is the fact that many people use a universal password on all their accounts. If they signed up for Battlefield Heroes with their usual email address and password, it means that many of their accounts, including Paypal and Ebay are at risk.
