Nope, MGS 4 Won’t Make It To The Xbox 360. Or Will It?

All right, this rumor is spreading like wildfire all over the internet. After Final Fantasy XIII (13) changed houses and decided to go for a multi-platform release, it’s obvious to think Metal Gear Solid 4 will do the same. Isn’t it? Wrong.

Before I get flooded with hate mails, let me say, yes I only own a 360. And as much as I want to, the chances of MGS4 appearing on the 360 is pretty slim. You see, MGS 4 is akin to Halo 3. If you port Halo 3 to the PS3, the whole internet will be up in riot. If you port MGS4 to the 360, not only will the entire internet end up taking arms, but personal lives (read: Kojima’s) might be at stake.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Rumor Squashed

And even if you require further proof, here’s what Kojima said, “Metal Gear Solid has traditionally been with Sony, and I still believe Sony is the best match in terms of the full complete package as a game software”. A Konami rep also added, “Kojima-san owes way too much to Sony to stab them in the back like this, his honor would be tarnished forever and the Japanese care deeply about their honor”. Well said.

But wait. If anything that Microsoft has aplenty, it’s their bottomless bank account (no honor, though). They managed to pick up (buy out) the rights to GTA, Ace Combat (my personal favorite) and the latest of all, Final Fantasy (if there is any more to the list, do let me know). To give a glitter of hope to Xbox fans (myself included) here’s what caused a storm over at Xbox Family. “Speaking to a Konami rep at an undisclosed distribution meeting, I was told MGS was in development for the 360. The rep stated that Metal Gear Solid will be released for the Xbox 360 between 12 to 14 months after the PS3 version hit shelves. This is not a rumor”. (I have italicized the glaring loop holes to this story for your viewing pleasure).

MGS 4 Rumor

Wow. A triple A PS3 exclusive title is headed to the 360 and still Microsoft ain’t touting it. Either they too are dumbfounded or still don’t know about it themselves (sarcasm intended). The only reason MGS 4 needed to go for a multiple platform release was to recoup the huge development costs, since the PS3’s fate was uncertain (read:during the early days) in the West. But considering the PS3 is gaining strong momentum and MGS 4 selling well over a million copies, I see no reason for them to do so. Unless there’s even more money to be made. 😉

  1. I think throughout the game, it hints strongly that it is PS3 exclusive, we are not only talking about porting the code here. Although if they want to make drastic changes to the game, yeah its possible to come to the xbox 360.

  2. @ Adnan

Although I haven’t played it yet 🙁 but I heard that you get messages like it’s a PS3 exclusive throughout the loading screens, if I’m not mistaken.

  3. Exactly, not only that. It contains apple products, talks about Blu-ray and all that stuff.

  4. @ Adnan

So they got Apple ads too? What sort?

  5. Apple Powerbook which Otacon uses, Apple iPod which snake uses. Snake uses Dual shock 3 to control a robot.

  6. Honor? Pfft. Konami is a business. They work for a profit.
Only those more inclined to live under a bridge would believe that they should harm Kojima in the unlikely case of a port.

On advertisements in the game, competitors products have been showcased before, like Apple products in Pixar games. No riot was made. It is the right of the game maker to advertise in his/her game. Microsoft would be a fool to not accept a game, even if it advertises the competition. HD-DVD is dead, so I see no reason for Blu-Ray to even matter; Microsoft has the Mac Business Unit, and they definitely use Apple products; the 360 even works with an iPod. The idea that advertising would be an issue is not a very good one.

That said, I doubt MGS4 will come to the Xbox for various reasons, but not being able to port it is not one of them. In fact, if Sony brings it up much more, I might change my position, because such a challenge is one that Microsoft would be ill-advised to ignore.

Currently, my position is still that MGS4 is still exclusive, as some part of a partnership between Konami and Sony.

  7. From a strictly business point of view (keeping out the riots, fanboyism, personal threats, attacks, what else is there?) MGS4 will be really profitable for Microsoft if it made it to the 360. Heck, if it did, I don’t have to buy a PS3 just for playing MGS. But I doubt if it will.

Wasn’t MGS 2: Sons of Liberty on the original Xbox?

  8. Yeah MGS 2: Substance came, which also came for ps2 at that time. Perhaps something similar will come for the 360. Although lets not forget, MGS 3 never came to other systems.

  9. From a sales point of view, mgs4 would turn out to be gr8 for the Xbox 360 console…i mean not everyone gets to own both nxt gen consoles all at a time(unless u turn out to be filthy rich?!:P) N y doesn’t Kojima realize that alot of gamers out there would prefer to spend a reasonable amount of money on a cheaper console which got a whole lot cheaper(the recent price cut for the 360) just made alot easier console to afford n with an award winning game library…what else do ya need. Millions will get to appreciate the work of kojima n hell…their gona have TWICE the amount of sales on a 360…il bet that!
Every time i pay a visit to rifles square…i c two 40gb ps3z lyin there for God knowz how long n when my eyes gazed upon those awesome copies of MGS4…it really pisses me off!!?!. I won’t buy a damn console for 1 game!:@:@
Check out these release dates n if u know what games to look for then ul truly c that xbox 360 righteously deserves MGS4.:P

    http://xbox360.ign.com/index/release.html

Il be keepin my fingaz crossed. Final fantasy comin to the 360….it ain’t long till snake “jumps in” to the world of Xbox 360! Game on lads(Y):P….

  10. @ Tajveed

I would buy the PS3 only to play MGS 4. 😛 Plus, there’s Blu-Ray and free PSN. But, agreed, the 360 is much better for us Bangladeshi gamers.

But as Adnan said, there are some Apple and Sony stuff in MGS4. Wouldn’t it look stupid if Snake used the PS3 controller on a 360 game? They would have to do much work than to just port a game. And as much as we all want to, I don’t think MGS4 will see the light of day on the 360, not at least now.
