PS3 Has Best Exclusives This Year, ‘Nuff Said

[Update] There has been an error on my part for including Gran Turismo 5: Prologue which was released in 2008. I also did not include Left 4 Dead 2 as it was also released on the PC. All values have been updated but the result is the same.

Last year, I wrote that Xbox 360 Has Better Titles Than PS3 and Wii Combined which caused quite a bit of stir. So, what about this year? Does the 360 reign supreme or has the PS3 has stolen the crown?

This time it’s all down to a matter of exclusives, specifically which platform has the greatest number of AAA exclusives. After all, exclusive games make or break a gaming platform. I’m glad to say that this year around, Sony beats Microsoft on both fronts. Sony had the greatest number of exclusive games released on the PS3 (a total of 8 7) while the 360 came in close (at a total of 5 6, or 4 if you consider that Velvet Assassin and Left 4 Dead 2 was also released on the PC). Not only that, but PS3 exclusives scored better on average than 360 exclusives. Now for a bit of number crunching:

Exclusives Breakdown

PS3 360 Exclusives Breakdown

AAA Exclusives

Last year, I set the bar of Metacritic score 90 & up for a game to be a triple-A exclusive. “Even the 360 has the greatest number of killer A+ titles (Metacritic score 90 and up) of 12, but the PS3 is hot on the heels [with a total of 5]”. This time the PS3 has 2 while the 360 has only 1.

Given that this doesn’t make an interesting comparison, lets lower the bar to Metacritic score 85 & up. Even then the PS3 has a staggering 5 games while the 360, sadly, has 1 has 2.

AAA Titles As A Percentage Of Total Exclsuives

If you do the math [no. of 85+ exclusive games/no. of total exclusives for that platform], the PS3 still comes at top with over 60% of its exclusives having scored 85+ on Metacritic. The 360 stands at 33.33%.

And The Winner Is….

Well there you have it folks, the PS3 reigns supreme this year. I remember someone saying last year (on the 360 article), “I’m soo going to bookmark this post and bring it up anytime someone bashes the 360”. Well, now there’s actually a reason to do so. Ah, can’t wait for next year. 😉

  1. You forgot to mention MLB:The Show, which is also a PS3 exclusive with a Metacritic score of 90.

  2. You forgot about Left 4 Dead 2, Episodes From Liberty City, God of War Collection, Fat Princess, Flower Shadow Complex. You also listed 2008 release Gran Turismo 5 Prologue as a 2009 release.

You also forgot about such PS3 exclusive flops as Afrika.

You’ve probably forgotten a bunch of other stuff too, what a poor article.

  3. Left 4 Dead 2 (is on pc) 😐
Episodes From Liberty City (only DLC) 🙄

  4. i have both ps3 & 360,but still i think 360 games r better than ps3.while the ps3 is best 4 exclusives….

  5. @ The Gaming Wiz/Mushfiqur Rahman

why don’t u post articles about other gaming consoles like – psp,ps2,wii & ds?
many gamers in bd also have these consoles….
it will be better if u post articles on them, instead of only for the 360,ps3 & pc.

  6. The Best Games of 2009

Sony’s Playstation 3 console has edged out Microsoft’s once-dominant Xbox 360 to finish on top in Metacritic’s first annual Game Platform Power Rankings.

  7. Sony won 2008, 2009 and will win 2010.

  8. No surprises here, PS3 exclusives are lightyears ahead of 360 eclusives in terms of quality. Next year it won’t get better for Microsoft either, how are they supposed to compete with God Of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5 in the same year??? Poor 360 – so much hype, so little delivery.

  9. @cell 989

That is an oversight on my part. MLB 09: The show also released on PSP & PS2

    @ Sahil

Yes, its true Im skewed towards the “next-gen” consoles. I don’t game on my PS2/Wii that much but I’ll try to come up with some interesting reads. 😀

    @ Jacob

2010 will be an interesting year for gamers with so much good games coming out. Sony will have a hard time for sure.

    @ David

We just have to wait and see. 😉
