Is It The End of The Bayonetta Hype Train?

Many were touting Bayonetta as the next God of War killer (come on, seriously?). The final reviews are out and Bayonetta turned out to be really good. It scored “above average” on IGN & GameSpot (the 360 version is top-notch) while others such as GamesRadar, VGArabia & Famitsu gave it near perfect scores.

Personally I had high hopes for Bayonetta (So, What’s All The Hype About Bayonetta?) and although the game is really good but it can’t compete with the likes God of War I & II (if you had to ask). It’s down to a matter of preference and comparing the two doesn’t do either one justice. Here are some facts:

Bayonetta

Bayonetta Reviews:

Gamespot – 8/10 (PS3), 9/10 (360), “Bayonetta on the PlayStation 3 is simultaneously gratuitous, ludicrous, and great.”

IGN – 8.2/10 (PS3), 9.5/10 (360), “Bayonetta has one of the best combat systems I’ve ever experienced.”

GamesRadar – 10/10, “Superbly slick combo system that’s as varied as it is exciting. Massive boss battles in stunning locations. Bayonetta. She kicks all sorts of ass and is funny too.”

Famitsu – 38/40

VGArabia – 9.5/10, “Action At It’s Finest”

And now for God of War II (just for comparison):

GameSpot – 9.2/10, “God of War II is another violent and highly entertaining achievement for the action adventure genre, and it’s a fitting closeout to the PlayStation 2 era.”

IGN – 9.5/10, “IGN Game of the Year 2005”

Bayonetta

So all you naysayers out there, stop comparing Bayonetta to God of War, Devil May Cry and what not because that’s just stupid. Instead view it as a superb action game with a nonsensical story line. Sure it might have its share of flaws on the PS3, but it runs smoothly on the 360. Bayonetta scored 91% and 89.5% on Metacritic and GameRankings, respectively and that’s something. Don’t forget the sales figures. Even though US/EU sales figures aren’t released yet, but the PS3 version was the top-selling game during its first week in Japan and sold a total of 138,000 copies.

  2. @sng425

You have the luxury of downloading it right off the internet while I have to wait for the mail man to deliver it. πŸ˜›

Funny thing, although I praised Bayonetta in this article, some took it the other way around. Mainly, I wanted to say: STOP comparing Bayonetta to God of War II

  3. @The Gaming Wiz/Mushfiqur Rahman

i didn’t compared bayonetta to god of war II.both are different types of games.both games fall into different catagory.people who are comparing these games are just nuts.how the hell they are gonna compare a Fantasy Action Adventure type game with a Beat-‘Em-Up & Hack & Slash type of game?

btw…does Bayonetta have any online features?if not, then is the stealth check necessary?i mean if it passes then i don’t have to worry, but if it doesn’t,then do i have to wait?

ps: i am pretty sure the verification test will fail, cus the official release date is today.so,it might take time to get verification data on abgx’s database.
anyway, sorry if i ask any stupid question, cus i am new to this.i just bought my xbox 360 1 month ago.i haven’t got into this.it takes time for a noob to get into this.specially if one has modded xbox 360 !

Sorry mate I can’t confirm at this time. But you can try this: if you’re unsure whether any games have stealth check, just pull out the ethernet/internet cable from the back of your 360 so it won’t connect to Live. And are you having difficulty in connecting to Live?

  5. yes,i’ve told you the problem on this page-http://www.gamersworldbd.com/2010/01/zipbd-sirius-broadband-512kbps-isp-review.html

i will be testing the xbox live connection in few minutes.then i will tell u what error comes up.

  6. @sng425,
Have ya tried putting your PC’S Mac into your X 3 and then connect it to XBL?

    …………………..
I take Bayonetta as a different game than G.O.W. Series…I am to play this game soon, but still do not know if it’s available for X3 or not, Games Source sed it is available on PS 3, gonna get out of ma house..it’s very cold and makes me very lazy… πŸ˜›

  7. @Reza

Bayonetta is available on X360. I recommend the 360 version since it runs better than the PS3 one. I’ve read reviews where the PS3 version suffers hiccups.

  8. Started playing Bayonetta since yesterday…finished 5 chapters till now…..
    Graphics awsome…
    Combat is satisficing…
Boss fights are not that exciting till now except for the boss in chapter IV…
Bayonetta is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sexy……it’s a bless for me watching her almost entire… 😳 each time she casts a magic spell….
A very good introduction to items is- TRY before Buy…I can try out stuffs..if I think that is not that necessary…I leave it off….it should have been introduced quite a long time ago…specially in Dead Space… 😑
When similar type stupid enemy gets koncked out, you can take it’s demon weapon immediately and get it worked out on the same type of another stupid..it wes indeed necessary….

    I hate boring lengthy cutscenes….
    Too much explicit language….

Lets see if I found anymore THAT interesting thing through the game….

  9. @Reza

Wow, you got me so pumped up for Bayonetta again. And a nice review in there itself.

  10. (Continued)

    Well, finished chapter 6, 7 and 8.

Previously I sed the game is interesting enough but not that hard or challenging…well, until I came to verse 4 in chapter VI, it seemed so- here ya go, the most difficult part of bayonetta that will earn any respect from any serious gamer….extremely difficult two bitchy brothers- Grace and Glory….. I have to admit it is one of the few TOUGH times I faced in Dead Space and GOW I. And I admit Ninja Gaiden II doesnt have any single pair of this kinda tough situation..

Once you *somehow* managed to defeat Grace and Glory- dun get your ass relaxed cuz immediately another pair of these enemies will attack- so disgusting…

    Two more things-

    * The environment designing(scenerio, city etc) looks familiar like those from Ninja Gaiden II.
    * The main key to defeat sub bosses and demons is to DODGE (pressing R2 wisely)…it’ll make the gamer’s life a lot easier..

Lets see what is next waitin for me.
