Sony Patents PS3 Dongle For Backwards Compatability With PS2 Games

Sony Japan has filed a patent for an external adapter to act as a bridge. This will allow the PS3 to be backward compatible and play PS2 games.

Gaming site Siliconera has checked the Japanese patent database and confirmed its existence.

A schematic of the proposed adapter (200) shows the device has its own processor, a DVD decoder/emulator, sound processor, and graphic processor.

What we would like to mention is that it is at a conceptual stage only. It does not mean that Sony has started production on these devices or even if the design process is complete.
