Kinect Drivers Now Available For PC And Mac

The OpenNI project – a non-profit organization consisting of PrimeSense (the 3D depth sensing tech behind Kinect), robotics company Willow Garage and motion control game developer Side-Kick – has released Kinect drivers that allow it to work with PCs and Macs.

The OpenNI project aims to “certify and promote the compatibility and interoperability of Natural Interaction devices, applications and middleware.”

You can download the drivers here.

But consumers won’t find much since not many applications take advantage of the drivers. It’s mainly aimed at developers as it comes with a full application programming interface (API) focused on designing natural interfaces and integrating with middleware solutions.
