New PS3 Custom Firmware Bricking 60 GB Consoles
Custom firmware v3.55 has killed quite a few launch PS3s as people rushed to “back up” their games without waiting to see if the thing actually works. Even when it was discovered that the firmware is utterly broken, people were still bricking their consoles because they weren’t reading whole forum threads.

i am glad i didnt jump straight into custom firmware with my 40gb model. Playing newer games like gt5 using modified eboot/patch file is good enough 🙂
