Nintendo Explains Why They Don’t Do Achievements

Speaking to Kotaku, Nintendo head of marketing Bill Trinen said that Nintendo is “not opposed to achievements,” but he explained why the publisher has avoided using them for most of their games:

“When they create their games, [Nintendo’s designers] don’t tell you how to play their game in order to achieve some kind of mythical reward. Basically, the way the games are designed is they’re designed for you to explore the game yourself and have this sense of discovery. To that end, I think that when you look specifically at games from EAD [the group long led by Mario and Donkey Kong creator Shigeru Miyamoto] and a lot of other games that Nintendo has developed as well, there are things you can do in the game that will result in some sort of reward or unexpected surprise. In my mind, that really encourages the sense of exploration rather than the sense of ‘If I do that, I’m going to get some sort of artificial point or score that’s going to make me feel better that I got this.’ And that, to me, is I think more compelling.”

sorry for offtopic but did getting the real ip fix the qubee nat issues for u?

Real IP doesn’t fix the issue sadly since Qubee’s modem Gigaset SX682 can’t forward ports properly and doesn’t have UPnP. Although my ports are open, but problem is for the modem. I also bought a router from the US, Netgear WNDR3700, but you can’t connect the router to Qubee directly. At first I wanted the Qubee modem to act as bridge mode and connected it to the WNDR3700. But Qubee’s bridge mode doesn’t even work properly. 👿 👿

Long story short, even though ports are open, problem is for the Qubee modem. Xbox 360 shows NAT type open (finally! when connected via WNDR 3700). I tried Forza 3 and it works fine, taking less than 15 secs to find a game. But AC Brotherhood multiplayer takes 5-10 minutes to find a match (don’t know if it’s due to the fact that few people are playing Brotherhood online or not). PS3 shows strict NAT all the time no matter what. 😡

    Here’s what I did if anyone’s interested:

Qubee SX682 Modem set as router and connected to Netgear WNDR 3700.

Netgear WNDR 3700 set up as DMZ/exposed host on Qubee’s modem settings.

Everything connected to WNDR 3700. Netgear WNDR 3700 has UPnP, so no worries about port forwarding/does automatically.

Xbox 360 shows open NAT. Although I haven’t tested online multiplayer extensively.

PS3 shows STRICT NAT, no matter what.

PC ports open, torrents work fine so does online multiplayer.

  3. bro it also takes me 5-10 minutes to find a game on AC:B, it’s just the game might lack player. And if you have a open NAT, your good to play any game. BTW did you get gold subscription card yet?
