New NFS Out of The Law in Development By Criterion

Criterion, developers of the critically acclaimed (and tons of fun) Burnout series is said to have taken the reins of Need For Speed.

EA chief operating officer John Pleasants said, “We’ve taken the Burnout team and combined it with our Need For Speed franchise. So we now have that in our favor because that Burnout team is probably one of the more online-centric and notably high-quality game developers that we have out at Criterion.”

So will NFS go the way of crash-happy Burnout? And what about the Burnout series, though it is possible Criterion will keep on updating Burnout: Paradise by means of DLCs.

Rumor has it that the game is Need For Speed: Out of The Law. Some concept art was leaked to the internet which you can view below. The first image is so reminiscent to NFS Most Wanted and the second one feels a bit like NFS Underground. Considering those were the most favourite NFS games, it will be nice to see them heading back to their roots.

  1. What the!!!…2nd one looks like Mid Night Club 3…..anywayz bring it burn it…NFS rulzzz man….

  2. UPDATE: As Criterion Games announced, the pictures and information about this new NFS is definitely a fake and not true. Unfortunately this was expected…

  3. @Godzmask

While Criterion is actually making a new NFS, but the concept art has been confirmed to be faked.

  4. well, nfs undercover was developed by ea black box,nfs shift was developed by slightly mad studios & now the new edition of nfs is being developed by Criterion?
whatever,i hope they don’t kill the nfs series,to make it like burnout series….

  5. @sng425

If they go back to the underground series, I’m buying. But not crappy and rushed like Undercover. I was really excited about Undercover but the final game was so unoptimized that my whole PC came to a crawl, even with the lowest settings.

  6. Hey,

According to Wiki (:P) BlackBox is sed to be developing illicit-street racing installments like the ones-MW, UG, UC, Carbon etc, while another developer is supposed to continue experiments on NFS Series- like Prostreet, Shift etc…

My gaming era began with UG 2, then soon after playing it I caught MW, Back in 2005…so definitely to me racing meant street-racing illicit elements with movies…

I liked the Nu Metal soundtracks, environments, exciting and stylish movement of Mia and Razor…soon after playing it, I gotten Carbon-MW II….it wes really cool- the unique canyon races, drifts, controls, but soundtrack and cutscenes were not that charming compared to MW.

I never liked Prostreet, but I wont say any offensive thing to Prostreet-it wes good for peep who liked that- what I liked in NFS Shift is the speed-it is really speedy, while taking it somewhere between Arcade and SIM- the main theme- speed wes properly redefined in NFS Shift…IMHO… (despite the sensitive controls)

After playing Shift, I did not look back to UC-IMHO it now seems ugly to me….and hey, when I gotten FORZA 3, I now also do not look back to Shift, FORZA rules in that SIM sense…:P:P:P

So whatever type is gonna be released I hope I’d see that speed in next NFS..

My point is it is actually not sure whether Criterion is making an illicit street racing thing, but surely it’ll bring new excitement…

    Let see……
