Sony Patents 3D Multiplayer System Without Split Screen

Soon you’ll be able to play multiplayer on your PS3 without using split screen, thanks to wonderful 3D.

In a patent filed by Sony last year (which became available online last week and found by Broke My Controller) Sony detailed how the technology will work.

In a nutshell, the screen will produce two separate images on screen which will be filtered by 3D glasses.

“Stereo 3D is all about generating two different images – one per eye. The glasses work by making sure that the right images are sent to the correct eyes,” Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter explained to Eurogamer.

“The theory here is that instead of having stereo 3D, the glasses each point to either the left or right “eye” view, which will be the view of each player in-game. So two screens are being generated, one goes to each player. Simple!”

Yup, Sony is working on the technology. Biggest problem for 3D adoption is the goofy glasses. 3DS already works without glasses and Sony is attempting to bring the tech to the big screen.

  4. 3DS shows the graphics without glass right?
