Readers Respond: How Excited Are You About 3D?

Readers Respond is a brand new feature in Gamersworldbd where you get to voice your opinion on the most pressing gaming issues in Bangladesh and worldwide.

Once a week, Gamersworldbd will post a new topic and provide both arguments: for and against. You, the readers, get to choose one side and debate it over at the comments section below.

Todayโ€™s topic: How Excited Are You About 3D?

Yes! Very excited indeed

I mean, who isn’t? 3D is all the rage right now, and with your favourite games and characters literally coming out of the TV, 3D is a unique and immersive experience.

The heavyweight 3D titles include Killzone 3. FPS games make for an involving 3D experience. Between dodging bullets coming out of the screen, flying jetpacks and what not, Gamersworldbd is really excited about Killzone 3 in 3D. And did we mention there are absolutely no loading screens?

Next up is Gran Turismo 5 in 3D. Driving your favourite supercar in 3D doesn’t get any better than this.

PC gamers aren’t left out either. Both Nvidia and ATI support 3D. Full list of games supported in respective links.

Didn’t you hear about 3D Vision Surround? it’s an Nvidia technology where you hook up three 3D monitors and get the most amazingly possible 3D experience.

The little handheld guy isn’t getting left alone either. Nintendo has announced the 3DS, which is capable of displaying 3D graphics without those pesky glasses.

I’m not much of a handheld gamer, but once 3DS hits, I’ll be getting it for Metal Gear Solid 3DS: Snake Eater and Splinter Cell.

Last but certainly not the least are 3D movies. With a simple firmware upgrade (3.50) your PS3 is capable of playing 3D movies. Gamers are all set without having to buy a 3D blu-ray movie player.

No, not really

I hear ya. To play 3D you need a 3D capable monitor/TV which can display images at 120Hz. Needless to say, there aren’t any 3D monitors available in Bangladesh. The only one is a Sony Bravia 3D TV at Bashundhara City. And that’s for display only. They aren’t planning to sell it yet and when they do, it’s going to sell for around 7-10 lacs a Sony rep told me.

But after 2-3 years, more 3D monitors will be available and prices will come down. So, no matter how excited the entire world is about 3D, we Bangladeshis have to wait a bit longer. So, unless you have enough spare money lying around to buy a small car, getting 3D will take some time.

Then you need a powerful PC to handle 3D games (if you plan on PC gaming). 3D technology renders each frames twice, so your gaming performance will decrease by half. Unless you spend big bucks on a monster graphics card, 1080P 3D on your PC is still a far-fetched dream.

Xbox 360 gamer? You’re out of luck. Microsoft does not have any plans to support 3D yet.

Then there is the necessity of getting 3D glasses, each for every person who wants to view 3D. These cost around $120 each, although one will come free with the 3D TV.

Not to mention the headaches with 3D. Try playing games straight for 6 hours with 3D. And there is the fact as how you look with 3D glasses on. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So, how excited are you about 3D?

  1. Thinking about 3D at this moment is like a dream for us but i would like to see a optimized 3D which will be glass free and less harrowing than the pre version we can find today. Not to forget the prices of the setup mindblowing ๐Ÿ˜ฏ only ps3 gamers will have the least cost considering they only need to get a 3D capable display. For PC we need to spend some outrageous bucks on a system with at least 2 high end graphics card not to forget the other components ๐Ÿ‘ฟ .So 3D isnt meant for a living room at the moment. If the prices gets to mainstream also the glass less 3D tech makes its way reducing the production cost in the process [a prime example is the Nintendo 3Ds] then we can think about it except some super rich kid ๐Ÿ˜† who can think about it now.For us BD Gamers as the article mentioned that its years away we need to stick to HD for now.Still i think 3D isnt a big jump like SD to HD was and its more like a gimmicky and less perky than HD seemed. We need something better than 3D something which will make graphics on par with the real world aka photo realistic graphics

  2. not much really..3D goggles..headaches..short period of gaming..not my type..

  3. “Xbox 360 gamer? Youโ€™re out of luck. Microsoft does not have any plans to support 3D yet.”

That’s really sad! I hope they make some arrangements for xbox 360 players to play on 3D. Btw if psp2 is having 3d then i’m gonna get that. Cause i’ve never really been a fan of nintendo!

  4. “Xbox 360 gamer? Youโ€™re out of luck. Microsoft does not have any plans to support 3D yet.” ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

That is not entirely true!!! Have you guys heard of the games Batman Arkham Asylum or Call of Duty Black-ops ๐Ÿ™„

Both of which support 3D n Xbox 360!! just read the following ign article i posted below ๐Ÿ˜‰ :
    http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/112/1125493p1.html

  5. @Pagla07

Bro, didn’t you get the iXtreme LT Lite Touch firmware for your Xbox 360 yet? the last time we talked over you were saying that you are having some kinda problem with your existing firmware, is it fixed now?

  6. @Pagla07

What? Arkham Asylum? Black Ops? Are those movies? ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜‰

All right, jokes aside, Arkham Asylum GoTY edition released sometime ago and I witnessed in 3D on the PS3.

The Xbox 360 is fully 3D capable but Microsoft is yet to “officially” support it. By officially I mean, demoing it to the public, advertising and in general spreading the news about 3D games on Xbox 360.

Microsoftโ€™s Aaron Greenberg has said that “Xbox 360 is fully equipped to handle 3D games. Many, many years from now when it becomes a reality, we absolutely can support it, we do support it today. If developers want to make more 3D games, they can/” @ http://www.next-gen.biz/news/xbox-360-%E2%80%9Cfully-3d-capable%E2%80%9D-microsoft

So, yeah, it’s good to see Xbox gamers not left out in the cold. But Black Ops 3D on Xbox 360 has no difference on the PS3 3D version as in the IGN article you mentioned and we have to applaud Treyarch/Activision.

    Still, you can’t play hi-def 3D movies on 360.

  7. @TheGamingWIz & Sng425

you guys were right Red Dead Redemption is awesome  playing it now on my ps3 ๐Ÿ˜‰ but had to do a lot of hassle though cuz its a game that has a single file over 4gb to be more accurate 6.5gb ๐Ÿ‘ฟ so it doesnt support FAT32 so FTP was the only way to transfer it.Anyway happy gaming to u guys as always ๐Ÿ˜Ž talking about Red Dead Redemption, Sng425 where is ur Red Dead Redemption review โ“

  8. @TheGamingWIz
Thanx for the reply… good to know were all informed…:P now bout buying a 3D… if i save now.. i shud b able to afford one in bout…10 years or i could buy a car…:S

    @sng425
Yup its all been fixed i successfully openned up my 360 n modded it with the LT firmware… i almost broke my case in the process…:S but it all worked out in the end… in fact.. i even modded a friends 360 too… but ryt now i gotta slim… n as u myt already know there are no hacked FW available for it (though i heard rumors of the new FW being called LT+) sooo.. im kinda jus stuck buying originals every couple o months…so i gotta be extra picky only triple A exclusives for me…thank god microsoft have got so few exclusives… :S

  9. @Pagla07

So you modded it on your own? well that sounds good enough to me because you know what, it’s better to do it on your own rather than giving your console to those shops. It’s good to know you got the 360 slim but looks like you don’t know that it’s been hacked! Yes, you read it right, it’s been hacked. You can read it here – http://www.gamersworldbd.com/2010/08/new-xbox-360-slim-hacked-video-inside.html

I’m also planning to get the 250gb slim(including Kinect) this November when it releases.

  10. @Rabbi

It’s good to hear that you finally got to play it. ๐Ÿ™‚ When Rockstar announced that they’re not going to release any GTA title this year I was kind of disappointed ๐Ÿ™ with that. But later it seemed that Red Dead Redemption actually quenched the thirst of those gamers who were waiting for a GTA title. Red Dead Redemption is one of best sandbox game I’ve ever played and it’s also the game of the year for me.

And about the review, actually I was kind of busy playing the recently released games such as Mafia II, Kane & Lynch 2 : Dog Days, F1 2010 etc. and didn’t get the time to write the review. Besides, I played it a while ago and I almost forgot it. And I don’t think it even does need any review as it’s awesome and we all know that.

  11. “And I donโ€™t think it even does need any review as itโ€™s awesome and we all know that.”

Okay, what I tried to mean by that is, it doesn’t need a review after 5 months of it’s release since we all know it’s an awesome game and (who knows!)perhaps the best game of the year!

  12. @sng425

i agree! Judging by the visuals and gameplay its even done on the same engine as Gta 4 i guess  Just to sum it up its friggin awesome it will help me keep busy till the Undead Nightmare releases with every dlc of this game ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

  13. i wanna give it a try but can anyone tell me where i can get nvidia 3d vision glasses frm in bd?

  14. oh and are dere 3d monitors available in bd too ?

  15. @Devilmask

A 3D glass is usually included with a 3D TV. AFAIK, 3D glasses aren’t available in Bangladesh because 3D TV technology isn’t common here. You may have to import it.

  16. The avatar on xbox came with a 3D option.
when i enable it it looks blurry, if i put a glass then can i play that game 3D?

and is there any other game in xbox which got 3D option like this..

  17. @ Mushfiq
