Reader Question: Which Modded Xbox 360 To Buy?
Today I received an email from Gamersworldbd reader FlaminRage.
He writes: “I’m a really heavy PC gamer. Now I want to buy an Xbox 360. I don’t think I will play online, just at home and for that I will buy a modded version. I just have a few questions.
(1)Which version should I buy? What are the latest prices? I was thinking elite 120GB.
(2)Do the new elites still RROD?
(3)Is the slim available in BD? What will the price be?
(4)Which is the best place to buy games at a good price?”
First of all, a modded Xbox 360 Elite costs Tk 31,000 at SOF, UAE Market Banani. If money is not an issue, then you can get the Elite. Otherwise go for the Xbox 360 Arcade as it is cheaper.
Since you won’t be connected online, you won’t have much use for a bigger hard drive of the Elite. Both the Elite and Arcade are same function wise, except, the Arcade has only 256MB built-in memory (which can be expanded) and comes only in white. Also, you have to buy a HDMI cable as it is not included with the Arcade.
My advice? Save cash and get the Arcade. Purchase an additional HDD if you want to install games to the hard-drive as it saves disc and lens wear of the 360 DVD-Drive.
I don’t know the exact price of the Arcade, I’ll ring up SOF tomorrow and let you know the price.
Now onto your second question. Does the new Xbox 360s RRoD? Nope. The newer Jasper motherboards are more reliable. They use a 65nm process and consume around 150W.
I have my Xbox 360 Elite since Jan 2008 (my 360 Premium, launch model RROD’d) and it is still going strong.
The newer Xbox 360 Slim is even more reliable and looks cool!
Now onto your third question. Yes, the Xbox 360 Slim has been spotted in Bangladesh (more info through the link).
Game Source & Electronics at Bashundhara City got the Xbox 360 Slim Arcade (a friend of mine sold it to the shop). If you tell them, they can import a 360 Slim for you. Don’t know the exact price but beware! A purchaser who imported a brand new 360 Slim from the shop found that his 360 was not working after a few hours.
And Xbox 360 games are available in a lot of places. If you live in Banani/Gulshan, you can’t go wrong with UAE Market at Kamal Ataturk Avenue. There are many good shops there such as SOF and Nadim Electronics. Bashundhara City also has a number of shops selling Xbox 360 games.

If the video is to be believed, mod for 360 Slim shouldn’t take too long.

I’ve been buying games from that shop for a long time, starting with ps 2 games..It’s funny how i found the ahop, my friend told me about SOF and i went to dragons and asked if it was SOF, and the shop keeper said “No we ain’t SOF, but we supply games to SOF”….

man i had both the arcade n elite the arcade’s bettter coz afta some tym the HDD starts to malfunction n i suggest u dnt buy arcade frm bd shops bcoz dey r not arcade dey r refurbed x360 pros wid wireless controllers….you can in BC shops if u dnt believe me…….

I can safely say that the 360 HDD is not prone to malfunction. I still have my 20GB HDD from the 360 launch model and it still works fine!

Guys help me out here. I wanna play my xbox with a monitor and pc speakers. But how will I connect them to my xbox simultaneously? If i connect the monitor with a HDMI to DVI cable, how am I gonna connect the speakers?? It’s my first xbox..

U r lucky im on my 2nd 20gb 1 on my arcade…….my elite 1 never did much trouble…i bought both my xbox and HDD’s for arcade from Best Buy…..Were did u get em from……

if u have the old xbox 360 version means not the slim one then u need to do a tweak to connect both hdmi and av cable at the same time i.e u need to open up the cover of the av cable or both cable and hdmi cable wont fit at the same time on the old model the slim ones are free from this though.And your idea of connecting xbox 360 to montior is absolutely right but i am afraid u need to do the tweak.Otherwise u go to SOF and tell them to import a xbox 360 vga cable or get it from amazon yourself.Means connect the vga cable to your monitor and the 2 analog stereo output to the back of the speaker controller box.Hope it helps

Xbox 360 hard disks arent faulty maybe u got a faulty one but i have seen my friends 360 hard disks to work years and its going good.

Okay so you connect to the monitor using the HDMI cable.
Then you get the standard AV cable with the yellow-red-white cables that is included with the 360.
Get a converter that will merge your red-white audio cable into a single one which you can use on your Creative Speaker. It is usually similar to a Y-splitter cable and can be found at IDB.

does best buy ship items to Bangladesh ā šÆ as far as i know they dont ship products to Bangladesh š it doesnt matter where u bought them from there are faulty items that microsoft ships all the time cuz production yield isnt 100% in fact so there are some faulty products at retail.If it wasnt faulty at retail maybe it got faulty or something must have damaged when u were using it unless why would it break down on you right š But only a very few people like u had that problem even my friends launch unit reminiscent to gamingwiz’s/musfiq’s launch model hard disk is still fine

Speaking of my HDD – I even hacked it (connected to PC to dump system update files), took it multiple times abroad through airport X-Ray scans and it sill works fine!

as far as i know both hdmi and av cable can’t be connected together for the lack of space.I am not surprised about ur hard disk still running fine cuz i didnt see anyone who had a broken hard disk except fahim_sinister.

Heavy Rain is awesome u should play it.The game has no gameover thing in fact if u messed up a mission it stays that way and the game has 18 possible endings šÆ depending on the situation i just had 4 endings so far.The story is a shock in the end but i wont spoil it by telling cuz its more shocking story than red dead redemption in fact šÆ and the saddest story u can ever witness in a video game š but u can all change that if u chose to be arrogant throughout the game though.

Man I hate exclusives. I know that they are essential to the survival and success of consoles and to show off each console’s strength. But from us Bangladeshi’s view point it means we have to own both 360 and PS3 to enjoy best games which is simply too much expenditure.

both of the games are awesome but storywise Heavy Rain beats any video game to date.Uncharted 2 is awesome and witty fills up the gap of gears of war in the ps3 and how drake gets screwed up time and again in the whole games makes me š

I liked Heavy Rain for its mature storyline. The one part thats still imprinted on my mind is [SPOILER] where Madison Page gets abducted by the doctor in the basement. Man I was so scared trying to escape from the Doc, knowing that her death will have serious consequences as the story will continue without her. Man, I should have never taken the drink that Doc offered me.
Whereas UC2 is light-hearted and fun!

yeah i remember that [SPOILER] i didnt take the drink that doctor gave me btw and i could save her in the process but the doctor was funny though how i managed to kill the doctor using that drill machine but an uncanny way of operation dont u think š .There was a option in madison’s mission in scott shelby’s house where to jump from the window i didnt do that or that would spoil a happy ending in fact
on my first playthrough i witnessed a happy ending with madison shaun and ethan happily living after š³ but it was a shock that scott shelby was the origami killer i thought it was Gordi Kramer in fact until that cutscene that proves he is the one š

I own a PS3 and PC as of now.I also had a psp since 2005 but gave it to my nephew as i dont play it anymore still running fine btw
and my xbox 360 which rrod’ed in fact so i will buy a xbox 360 slim with kinect [moded one] next year before gears of war 3 comes out š

1. The last production X-Box 360s (Elites and Arcades) use the Jasper motherboards which are much more reliable than the older Microsoft built crap. The Jasper 360s will last you a good 3 years without any troubles. When you go to the shops make sure you buy a Jasper 360, look up on the internet how to distinguish one to ensure that you do not end up with an older version.
2. To buy a 360 Iād recommend you go to Bashundhara City or UAE Market. X-Box 360 Elite will cost you around 30,000 while Arcade approximately 21,000 (both modded). Like the others said if money is no problem go for an Elite, otherwise the Arcade is good enough. You can use an HDD with the Arcade as well only you have to get it separately, some shops do sell them. Overseas prices for both of these are much cheaper.
3. I would not recommend the X-Box 360 Slim, not now at any rate. First of all a mod is yet to be available. Secondly it is a new model, it is a design yet to mature so the initial production ones *may* have technical faults (considering these are 360s we are talking about).

hey guys i need some advice. someone is going to get me a 360 from England, and i have some questions about it:
which model should i buy, and what are the latest prices?
will it work in bd or do i have to buy separate power adapter cables? if so, from where?
i might also get kinect. can you guys tell me from where can i have my console flashed (so that i can play pirated games with the anti-piracy 2.5 thingy), and how much it will cost?
