Gran Turismo 5 sold 486,389 copies in Japan and also became the best selling game there.

Other track records include being the best selling game in UK, toppling the behemoth that is Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Here is the worldwide Gran Turismo franchise sales breakdown:

* Gran Turismo – 10.78m
* Gran Turismo 2 – 9.34m
* Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec – 14.80m
* Gran Turismo Concept 2011 TOKYO – 1.50m

Sony believes that the game will boost PS3 sales, despite the long delay:

“GT5 has been in the making for five years and we believe that it will serve as a true driver of new console purchases. We know it has been a long wait, but we genuinely believe that fans of Gran Turismo will not be
disappointed.”

The latest 1.03 patch adds “none”, “light” and “heavy” mechanical damage but only in online mode.
