PSP2 Official Announcement Coming On January 27, Rumors Suggest “Could Be As Powerful As PS3”

Several trusted sources and reports are suggesting that Sony’s PSP2 is now set for an official announcement on January 27 at a special press conference in Tokyo.

According to the trade publication site MCV, Sony has been claiming PSP2 handheld  is “as powerful as the PlayStation 3”, which backs up a previous article from last year.

It says it would include a HD screen with twin-stick controls in the familiar ‘brick’ form factor.

The same report also claims that while downloads will play a big part in the system’s game library, the PSP2 will use physical media as well so that its games can be sold in retail stores.

Sony is “specifically requesting richer, more in-depth content to differentiate its device from app-centric Apple and Android devices,”

It states the handheld will be out in Q4 2011, possibly as early as October, although Sony is plotting to reveal more info on it at GDC in San Francisco in March and at E3 in June in LA.

One of the supposed titles that is in development for the new handheld is a version of Uncharted.

Previously, Netherrealm Studios and EA openly said they got their hands on the machine and have been working with it.
